EU moves right; USA moves left
Conservative parties won big in the European Union elections. German and French conservatives made the largest gains. The EU said center-right parties were expected to take the most seats.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel's party sent a historic defeat to their center-left rivals in the European Parliament vote.
Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have been against any European stimulus, unlike British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who has been under heat to resign.
This shows that many Europeans are upset at how the current liberal-socialist parties have dealt with a world-wide recession by taking over banks and private companies.
