Sad Day in Sports

Roger Clemens, Brian McNamee, Andy Pettitte and Kelvin Sampson all have something in common. They all found themselves in the news for something bad on this Wednesday, Feb. 13.

It's too bad the greatest pitcher of all time may be going to jail for perjury. And, I don't believe he will be going to jail alone. McNamee was called a "drug dealer" today by the congressman on the committee. He may be telling the truth about Clemens, but he's no perfect angel. Then we have Clemens' best friend Andy Pettitte. Clemens says Pettitte is truthful and a good friend, but his friend may have made a big mistake last night when he said that Clemens spoke of steroids and HGH seven years ago. Clemens said Pettitte misunderstood the conversation, but that may have ruined this amazing pitcher's life. But time will tell. Clemens may be innocent, but it looks very difficult to prove at this time.

Then we have the most corrupt NCAA basketball coach in the last 10 years. He is at it again. Or, in all reality, he's still at it. He never stopped. Indiana University hired a crook and they paid him well. Too well. Kelvin Sampson and recruiting violations, they always seem to go together.

The University of Oklahoma was right to get rid of Sampson. But, IU made the second biggest mistake in its basketball history by hiring him. The biggest mistake, of course, was firing Bobby Knight. There were never any violations during Knight's reign and he had the highest graduation rate in the BigTen Conference. Much has changed at IU. Thanks Miles Brand.

It's ironic that Brand fired Knight and now Brand's organization, the NCAA, is now sanctioning against Indiana University. Might I add, Miles Brand knew practically nothing about athletics prior to joining the NCAA. But he did appreciate the "STUDENT-athlete," as he had those television commercials.

IU Basketball is in trouble, Major League Baseball is in trouble. Baseball is about to face some hard times, the Mitchell Report was just the beginning.

Time will tell. Tomorrow brings a new day.
